1. In which the wolf shows up
Sometimes you cry wolf and the wolf shows up.
You know this one. I’m sure you’ve heard what they say
about the cat, too, but it was more than just
curiosity.
2. In which one of us is the wolf
Do you think a person can be a treasure chest
without also being the shovel and the map
and the locksmith you call up when you lose
the key? Some words taste like trying to tie
a cherry stem in a knot when you have no idea
how to use your tongue muscles like that. I
bet we could tie a cherry stem in a knot if we put
our lips together though, and isn’t that the trouble?
If there was a plan, not getting to this point was it, but
we both know there was never a plan.
3. In which the other one of us is the wolf
Somehow the two of us made it to a hotel bed
in Montreal even though he taught himself
how to eat continental style when he was in school
and I still get food onto my fork with my other hand.
We’re waking up but he’s trying to keep me
under the covers with him even though he knows the thing
about how I eat, and I’m starving and I want coffee and I
want to be outside immediately and I want everything and
I’m so sorry for everything but I am tired of laying
down and letting my stomach growl waiting
for him to be ready to get up.
4. In which we are both the cat
We’re both trying to fill ourselves up
by swallowing the other whole.
5. In which my predictive text is the wolf
A lot more people
have a hard time to get
a good price for it and it’s not as good
for a watch that has the right price
point for a lot more money to get
a nice looking one that will be worth
the money
in a nice looking piece
that will last you forever
in a nice piece that
you have a good time and enjoy
the rest of your life with;
the watch you are wearing today
I love it.
