after Bernadette Mayer's Essay
It’s true, astronauts see 16 sunsets a day on average
It’s true, they may get sick of the sun already
It’s true, they don’t think about the sun
It’s true, we human species suffer from indifference
It’s true, we can care too little
It’s true, we care about it all wrong
It’s true, we unfortunately thrive on disproportionate attention and inattention
It’s true, we are not suited to care properly
It’s true, we will not see sunsets together
It’s true, sunsets aren’t always on time, either
It’s true, some places don’t get to see sunsets
It’s true, we mostly only need the idea of the sun
It’s true, we can almost be sure that our relationship with sun is very weak
It’s true, we are all only loosely related
Half of the year we walk on the street like the sun doesn’t exist
Another half we just complain about it
Maybe liking the sun is lame
Understanding all those solar phenomena why particles explode when and how to
observe eclipse
Only to be a sun expert
Do girls even like sun nerds
Most importantly sun doesn’t even care
To be seen and known
Studying sun will never be as rewarding as we want
According to google search
the average annual pay for a Solar Physicist in the US is about $94,805 a year
Much less than a salamander communication specialist
Although it can be hard to decide
Which is more loosely related to us the sun or baby salamanders
To be able to communicate with a baby salamander
Means you have to care about salamander problems
What they eat where they hide
You have to like more than the idea of salamander
People tend to ignore what’s in front of them
But obsess over what’s left them forever
Sixth grade, we lost our mom, among the other things
She would be proud if we become successful solar physicists
How much we love things that are so weakly connected to us
Maybe we love them for the exact reason that sun doesn’t care
Astronauts confirmed that the sun looks sort of boring to them
And that they are busy grabbing the handles instead of appreciating the universe
We have learned that distance is relative
That’s why we care about things that are loosely related
Once we start to see them through an astronaut’s window
Someone switches the lamp on and off for 16 times
